Qualifications for Guest Membership To become a UCI guest, you must meet the following qualifications:
If a Guest becomes a student or faculty/staff member in the future, their guest entry will be automatically converted to the new type. Guests may have the same privileges as faculty/staff, including an e-mail account, access to Library services, and other campus services. To apply for a guest UCInetID, follow these steps:
Your UCInetID must be activated before it can be used. The activation process allows you to identify yourself and set a private password for your UCInetID. Your Guest ID Number is required to activate your UCInetID. For more information, see the UCInetID Activations section on the NACS Home Page. As a member of the UCI and worldwide electronic community, you are expected to follow UCI's Computer Use Policy. Activating your UCInetID signifies acceptance of this policy. Quarterly Sponsor Renewal Process Guests are sponsored on a quarterly basis, for a maximum of 4 quarters at a time. Just as Sponsors are responsible for approving a Guest, they are also responsible for renewing a Guest for continued tenure. Approximately one month prior to the end of each quarter, all guests are reviewed for possible expiration. Each sponsor will receive an email that will instruct them on how to renew or expire their guests. The Sponsor must review the list of guests they sponsor, and selectively mark each one individually, in order to continue sponsorship. By default, all guests will be marked 'Expired', so the sponsor is forced to take action to renew a guest. Guest may be renewed for up to 4 quarters, just like the original application process. Both Guests and Sponsors will be notified about the upcoming expiration. If a guest has become an employee according to Payroll, or has become a student according to the Registrar, their guest record will be converted from a guest to the appropriate type, student or person. Finally, if a student or employee that was once a guest loses their student or employee status, they will be converted back to a guest for one quarter. From that point, the quarterly renewal process takes over again.
